5 Tips for Acne Clear Skin
Previously, I blogged about my 3 Steps to Acne Clear Skin and the response was great. 2 years down the road, I think it’s time for me to share with you further insights on what I have learnt on skin health and what I did to maintain clear skin
My Acne Story
The reason why I’m so passionate to share about skincare and natural wellness is because I myself have been through the darkest period of my life plagued with adult acne. It wasn’t fun – in fact it was humiliating as people would ask if I have washed my face (as if I got acne because I was unhygienic) or recommend me lots of different products to try on my face.
It was through this journey that I learnt that not all advice and treatments offered by dermatologists are helpful because in my case, they proved to be useless and expensive. Dermatologists usually advice against going for facial extractions because it might further aggravate the skin condition – but for my case it was otherwise. I did my facial treatments with Glomax Aesthetics and that helped unclog my pores and I also weaned myself off the synthetic chemicals in my daily products by replacing them with plant-based ones infused with essential oils.
My Acne Journey
Tip 1: Gut Health
Do you know that most skin conditions may be related to a damaged gut? Inflammation in the gut caused by a poor diet or food allergies may cause increased “leaking” of certain proteins out into the body, which can irritate the skin and cause conditions such as eczema.
Many members in my oily community visits a naturopath to heal their skin issues naturally. Unlike western doctors, a naturopath usually will assess your condition by looking at your blood test report and advise what kind of herbal supplements to take to support your health naturally. They will also advice on the diet changes necessary (i.e. cut gluten, sugar, dairy etc) for gut health.
You can consider visiting a naturopath if you are struggling with long-term health issues
One naturopath that my friends recommend is Dr. Sundardas – you may schedule an appointment with him at his clinic with your blood test report accordingly.
Some plant-based supplements that I’ve been taking for gut health would be: Ningxia Red (yes, my favourite “red juice” for energy boost and antioxidants), Sulfurzyme (for healthy skin, hair & nails) and Life 9 probiotics (and all of them are from Young Living because it’s the brand that I trust).
Tip 2: Emotions
Yes, emotions might affect your overall health as well. Stress can promote the growth of cancer cells, it can also induce chronic illnesses and skin issues. Hence it is very important that we take care of our emotions to ensure that we have a positive outlook towards life.
I quit my full-time job in the finance industry 3 years back due to the stress that I was facing and I believe that it helps my skin clear up faster as well. However, if you are unwilling to part with the income that you are receiving, you might want to explore ways to cope with your stress. Getting help such as counselling might be a great alternative, or you can adopt healthy habits & hobbies such as exercising or painting to help cope with negative emotions.
For myself, I have been using essential oils to support my emotions during these 2 years+ as it can get overwhelming during my career switch period as well.

Tip 3: Hormones
Hormones can be the cause of breakouts as well. Especially for those acne breakouts that appear at the chin area during the premenstrual period.
I have been using some essential oil blends to support healthy hormones and manage my premenstrual mood swings as well. Some blends that I use on a regular basis would be the Progessence Phyto Plus and Dragon Time. For guys, you can explore using Shutran to support your male hormones too.
Tip 4: Clean Skincare & Makeup
Through my acne journey, I realised that my skin reacts adversely to skin products that are laden with synthetic chemicals such as SLS, parabens and fragrances. You might want to learn how to label read the ingredients on your skincare products and scan them through the EWG Skin Deep website.
I have weaned synthetics off all my products and replaced them with some of my DIY Skincare products that are infused with essential oils.

If you find it too much of a hassle to DIY your own skincare products, you may get your ready-made clean skincare and makeup from Young Living as well. Some stuff that I’ve tried and would highly recommend are:
- ART Gentle Cleanser (it’s a light foaming face wash for most skin types)
- Orange Blossoms Face Wash (for oily, combination skin)
- Satin Mint Face Scrub (it’s a super gentle face scrub used to exfoliate the skin)
- Mineral Sunscreen SPF50++
- Mirah Face Cleansing Oil (makeup remover)
- Seedlings Baby Wipes (yes, I use this to remove makeup on lazy days)
- Lavender Lip Balm (this softens and repairs chapped lips like magic!)
- Savvy Minerals Makeup Line
Tip 5: Healthy Lifestyle
So like what I covered previously, having clear skin is not about just slathering a bunch of “stuff” onto the skin. It’s about holistic wellness so that our skin can literally glow from within!
Hence having a healthy lifestyle and balanced diet plays a part too! And this means sleeping early (before 11pm), exercising, weaning off processed foods, oily foods that are bad for the skin etc etc.
If you are struggling to sleep at night, you might want to consider taking natural supplements such as SleepEssence to help you with a good night’s sleep!
So I’m done with my sharing my insights on obtaining clear skin that is free from acne – I hope that it is helpful for you because this was what I went through and it’s totally possible to get out of this.
