Restaurant Review
Marché Mövenpick has opened its outlet in Asia Square on 4 November 2013. As mentioned in my previous post introducing Asia Square Building (Refer to: http://www.aldoramuses.com/2013/12/wheat-baumkuchen-food-garden-asia.html), Marché Mövenpick must have identified the good potential of Asia Square’s prime location in Marina Bay before deciding to establish its footprints here. Marché Mövenpick prides itself in offering a complementary and premium quality total offering at highway rest stops, airports, train stations and other selected city locations.

Le’ Ambience

We have to agree that Marché Mövenpick has spared no budget on their renovations. I fell in love with their garden decor almost immediately after a stressful morning of work. Yes, indeed we need to slow our paces down and take a look at the greeneries and peace that Mother Nature brings.

The not so User-Friendly Tables

Although the decor looks brilliant, we dislike the way the tables are designed as there is no room for us to cross our legs in such a small space given. We thought that this table is more suitable for skinny people to sit around…

Le’ Menu

The Lunch Special Menu is seasonal and changes daily. So you have to check out their website for the latest updates or you might want to refer to the chalkboard located near the restaurant’s entrance for more information.

Coincidentally, we visited the place on Friday the thirteenth – the daily Lunch Specials are all so fishy 🙁 Meh~ Da Rabbit hates fishy taste.. But fortunately, they are serving Salmon which tastes less fishy 🙂

What We Ordered

I ordered the Salmon Pasta Gratin with Garlic Flat Bread from the Daily Lunch Special Offer and one cup of Tiramisu for desserts whereas my colleague ordered the Oven-Baked Seabass Fillet with Fingering Potato.

At first we wanted to settle for warm water but the Salesgirl Waitress was enthusiastically recommending their ‘popular’ new drink – Blueberry Juice. As we know that berries might taste slightly sour, my colleague inquired if the juice is sour as she hates sour stuff and the waitress advised that it tastes more sweet than sour. Hence we heeded her recommendation and ordered a jug of the BlueBerry Juice.

Le’ Food

Blueberry Juice (SGD6.90++)

A glass Jug of Blueberry Juice
Sour Blueberry Juice
We were served with our beverage – Blueberry Juice. It comes in a glass jug and served in two glasses containing ice and a thin slice of lemon. The moment we drank the juice, we felt very cheated as the juice tasted really sour. I can take sour stuff, but I must affirm that the juice really tasted sour. My colleague stopped drinking after forcing herself to swallow half a glass of it.

Oven Baked Seabass Fillet with Fingering Potato (SGD16.90++)

The Oven-Baked Seabass Fillet with Fingering Potato was served first as my gratin will take some time to be prepared.

The Seabass Fillet tasted decent but the Fingering Potato tasted too plain and dry that we have to instruct the waitress to provide us with some chilli sauce to dip the potatoes in 🙁

Salmon Pasta Gratin with Garlic Flat Bread (SGD10.90++)

YAY! My order has arrived finally!!! The Garlic Flat Bread looked like the crust of Skinny Pizza and the dish looked very dry as well.

I tasted the surface of the pasta gratin and was surprised that it tasted crispy!

After digging deeper into the casserole, I discovered slices of smoked salmon being ‘buried’ underneath… The pasta gratin was delectable as it was crispy on the surface but moist on the inside. The Garlic Flat Bread has a slight burnt taste but it was really crispy. I must say that I am glad to have ordered this this over the Oven Baked Seabass Fillet as it is more value for money (I do hope that my colleague isn’t reading this review at the moment) ~ Muahahaha!

Tiramisu (SGD5++)

A cup / glass of tiramisu

The Tiramisu was served in a small transparent glass and it looked exquisite too 🙂 I love its moist taste with a tint of rum. However, I must comment that the biscuit served on the Tiramisu was dry and hard! Everything they serve seemed to be dry somehow.. LOL

Le’ Service

The service was OK at first as we were the first few customers that were seated (we left office at 11:30). However as the lunch crowd began to flood the place, the waiters were too busy entertaining the crowd to notice us waving madly at them to serve the desserts and to call for bill. The waiters were rather sluggish with their service too as they were always not looking around to see if any of the customers need help and hence we looked like clowns trying to wave to grab their attention madly 🙁

At first I wanted to rate the Service with a 3/5, but reduced to 2/5 due to the ‘hard-selling’ by the waitress who served us. After cheating us to get the ultra sour blueberry juice, she tried to convince my other colleague that it is very worthwhile to get the desserts as well but my colleague kindly rejected her offer as her tummy was filled with the food and the sour juice.

Overall

I love the interior decor of the restaurant and its peaceful garden theme and will still visit this place to try their other offers under their Lunch Special, provided if I get to go for early lunch break to beat the crowd and my other colleagues would want to visit this place again and give it a second chance. The feedback from my other colleagues who visited the place commented that the food sucks although I thought the gratin was pretty nice… Well, I think taste is something which is really subjective. I might not representative the majority, so you might want to take my review with a pinch of salt and judge for yourselves if you are keen to give this place a try 🙂
