Salicylic Acid Peel Facial @ SkinLab

My Acne Journey 2016 and Salicylic Acid Peel Facial

Combating acne is a lifelong battle and I will be sharing with you my Salicylic Acid Peel Facial experience in this post. Acne started becoming the bane of my life since puberty. I’m thankful that my breakouts are not the angry ones. That being said, I still find them frustrating because they thrive all over my face like plague. 😡

In my early twenties, I managed  contain my breakouts with topical medication prescribed by the dermatologist. Unfortunately, my nightmare returned soon after my wedding last year. The skincare products prescribed by my dermatologist were no longer working. I found myself in a new quest for products and services that help to alleviate my woes .😖

I stopped applying makeup on my face, including sunblock to allow my face to heal since last month. The only makeup I applied were on my brows and lips as I hoped that my bright lip colour can help to divert people’s attention from my face.

I sank into depression as my colleagues started to notice my face and commented about it. I even had a colleague who exclaimed “WHOA! What happened to your face?” when I bumped into her in the ladies. 😭😭

Beginning this year, I spent a few thousands just on facial packages with salons in my desperation to cure my acne and became a victim of hard-selling (will elaborate more in another post). 😵

It is so true that acne is caused by stress, but having acne can make one more stressed up. 🙇 I cannot think logically as I was blinded by my desperation to cure my acne problem.

SkinLab The Medical Spa

I have blogged for SkinLab‘s Gentle Milk Exfoliation Facial Treatment earlier.

SkinLab is a medical spa which integrates non-invasive and non-surgical beauty procedures in a relaxing spa atmosphere. Their beauty therapists have minimum 5 years’ experience with certified training to ensure that you are in good hands.

The most assuring part is that you get to book an appointment with a doctor for consultation before a beauty treatment is recommended to you.

Consultation with Dr. Kelvin Chua

A selfie with Dr. Kelvin Chua 😉 I did liquify my face in this picture as I was not wearing makeup on my face.

I did a detailed consultation with Dr. Kelvin Chua and highlighted to him my concerns as I have hyper sensitive skin prone to redness. I consulted about my breakout problems as well.

He advised me to take steer away from desserts as sugars are tested and proven to cause acne. 😣 I have a sweet tooth but I will persist for my face’s sake. 💪

He then recommended me to try the Salicylic Acid Peel Facial to control my breakouts.

I had a bad experience with AHA Facial at another salon which left me terrified of acid peels. I was worried that my face would be left burning for a good half an hour after the acid is being applied onto my face like the previous time. Hence Dr. Chua suggested for me to try the facial with Salicylic Acid at a minimal 10% dosage for a start.

Salicylic Acid Peel Facial (SGD268 / 90 mins)

The Salicylic Acid Peel Facial is a facial treatment for improving the appearance of ageing and sun-damaged skin due to its exfoliating properties.

Salicylic Acid is know for its anti-inflammatory properties and is used in skincare to combat acne. It attacks the causes of skin problems by getting rid of excess sebum, bacteria and inflammation from deep inside the pores of the skin.

It is oil-soluble and lipophilic to penetrate sebum filled follicles to unclog pores, loosen blackheads, even out skin tone and prevent breakouts.

In short, the Salicylic Acid Peel Facial is recommended for:

✔ Oily Skin

✔ Acne

✔ Blackheads

✔ Whiteheads

✔ Fine Lines

✔ Premature Ageing

✔ Uneven Skin Tone

I always have this misconception that chemical peels thins the skin, making it hyper-sensitive. However Dr. Chua explained that the Salicylic Acid Peel Facial helps to stimulate skin regeneration by exfoliating the dead skin  to reveal healthy skin underneath.

Procedure

I was ushered into the treatment room to get changed before the treatment commenced.

But first, a selfie 😉

#1 Relaxing Head Massage

I was tucked snugly under the blanket with a relaxing head massage whilst the soothing spa music was played in the background.

I could feel my pressure wean away as my head was being massaged by the therapist 👼

#2 Cleansing

I had my eye and lip makeup removed before having my face cleansed with a mild cleanser.

#3 Application of Salicylic Acid in 10% concentration

Salicylic Acid was applied on my face and neck and allowed to sit for a good 6 minutes before it was washed off with water.

I was expecting a burning sensation on my face like my previous AHA peel but no, it felt like nothing. Perhaps I should try the Salicylic Acid in 20% concentration which was initially recommended by Dr. Chua next time 😅

#4 Washing off the Salicylic Acid

With a wet facial towel, the therapist removed the Salicylic Acid. I felt a mild tingling sensation when the acid was being diluted by water.

#5 Application of Rosewater

Rosewater was then applied onto my face to soothe my skin to prepare it for extraction.

Unlike conventional facials where my face would get steamed before extraction, the Salicylic Acid Peel Facial requires no steaming. This is because Salicylic Acid helps to soften your skin effectively.

#6 Extraction

With skilful and deft hands, the therapist went ahead with the extraction. The pain level was tolerable overall.

#7 Eyebrow Trimming

I had my eyebrows trimmed and plucked after extraction 😍

Not many facials offered by salons include eyebrow trimming service nowadays 😊

#8 Application of Ampoule

Ampoule was applied to calm my sensitive skin after extraction.

#9 Facial Massage

Oh man, I couldn’t emphasise how much I love massages! And massage on my face simply feels so AMAZING 😇

#10 Application of Mask

A soothing mask was applied onto my face for a good 15 minutes.

#11 Neck and Shoulder Massage

Whilst waiting for my facial mask to set, the therapist proceeded to massage my stiff neck and shoulders.

No time was wasted throughout the entire session and I felt so pampered by the massages provided 😍

#12 Cleansing

The therapist proceeded to cleanse off the mask on my face and applied skincare on my face and I was good to go ☺️

Review

The Salicylic Acid Peel Facial changed my opinion on chemical peels totally. Not only does it not irritate my face, my skin was not as red as I expected after the facial.

I still managed to report to work without makeup the next morning without looking weird 😅

In addition to the above, I felt that the oil production on my face is regulated and I have lesser breakouts now. I can focus on treating my acne marks soon 😚

I would recommend you to visit SkinLab The Medical Spa if you have skin concerns. They provide solutions for your hair and body concerns too!
