Retro Chic Fashion
Retro pieces never fail to captivate me whenever I happen to see them as I love watching ancient dramas and secretly wished that I lived in the past. Hence in this post, I will be walking you through the fashion trends of 1960-70s and how I recreated my retro chic style.
Back to 1960s & 70s
As most of you know, fashion is rapidly evolving but it follows a predictable cycle. What is trendy now might be trendy half a decade ago and so on.
West
Back in the 1960s, the Hippie and counterculture movement gave rise to long and loose-fitting clothing. Bohemian inspired headbands and knee-high go-go boots were trending during that era too.

In 1970s, the loose-fitting clothes gave way to exotic fabrics and bell-bottom jeans. Off-shoulders top with lace-trim and peasant dresses became a popular trend among women.

East
In the Asian context, Chinese women wear traditional clothes like the Samfoo (衣裤 – Blouse + Pants in Cantonese dialect) which allow them to carry out menial tasks at ease. Also, the Samfoo looked like pyjamas with fragmented floral prints on the fabric.
The Straits-born Chinese (Peranakan) are more well-off and their ladies (Nyonya) wore the Kebaya with intricate embroidery.

My Retro Chic Look
A Lace and Cold Shoulder Affair
The sheer bottom of the Romance White Lace Midi dress adds a flowy touch to the overall look and I love how comfortable the lace material feels against my skin.
I chose to go simple with this look in order to accentuate the lace details of the Romance White Lace Midi.
I chose to wear a pair of gray wedges with this dress in order to look taller and long dresses tend to make me look shorter.

Kampong Days
Back to the good old days when Singapore was still a small fishing village (Kampong)!
The Garden Pastel Green Frill Playsuit resembles the modern version of Samfoo with a peranakan touch of pastel green and florals.
I had my hair fashioned in a pigtail for the added retro look.
I added some accessories for a modernised chic look, especially the earrings in matching colours with the jumpsuit.
